“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. –Matthew 7:7
As a chaplain I knock on a lot of doors. Some remain firmly closed and others almost spring open to welcome me. Last week I met a woman who called out loudly for me to come in, grabbed my hand and said, “I was waiting for you to come and you did. Sit down.” I had never met her before, was not intentionally looking for her, and yet as we talked it was clear to me that we were kindred spirits.
We both loved birds, plants and traveling. We had recently experienced grief and were sad that day, and we both dared to knock, and ask and believe that doors of hope and healing would be opened for us. As we talked and laughed, cried and prayed in that slowly darkening hospital room, we celebrated God’s presence with us and knew God’s healing love. –Fran Bogle
Dear God, give us the courage to knock on unfamiliar doors and walk through them. Help us to believe in the infinite number of unexpected ways we can experience your healing and love. Amen.
