Lenten Devotional by Holly White

“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3)
I was born a Catholic but I was more a holiday one. On a dare, I found the Baptist religion. I felt more at home there but a bit left out. Then I came to Edwards Church to do chair aerobics. I attended church with Myrna. I knew I found my true home that I could be safe in.
I grew up with alcoholism and drugs. Something inside me lead me away from all that. I knew I was different. Later in my life I made a life-changing decision to walk away from the craziness that meant saving my own sanity. That’s when I received the Holy Holly letter. The letter let me know how much better they thought I was than them. I refused to dignify it with an answer.
I prayed to God to give me the strength to hold my ground. Making this decision has allowed me to stay true to my beliefs and who I am. The little difference in me I now know it was God leading me to Him. God was showing me that with Him I can stand brave.
Abiding God who gives all strength, I pray that you journey with each of us—allowing us to stand brave in those times when we need to. Amen
