Dear friends,
Last Tuesday, through our office window, I saw a van show up in the upper parking lot and some people going into the sanctuary carrying things. By the time I finished what I was doing and walked up the hill, it was gone.
I went into the sanctuary and peeked behind the chancel and saw what they were doing: re-installing parts for our newly restored organ. I can’t wait to hear it!
The organ restoration provides the impetus for one part of our two-part fall worship theme. Each Sunday in September and October will feature special music, including a re-dedication of our organ on September 23. Other Sundays will include music by On the Fence (our outdoor service), instrumentalists accompanying our choir, hymn sings, music that inspires courage, and music our youth discovered at the Eastern Regional Youth Event. The season will culminate in a concert on Saturday, November 3, celebrating the musical gifts of Edwards Church.
The second component of our two-part theme for the fall emerged out of a recent conversation. “There’s so much going on here,” I said to a friend, “I have trouble wrapping my mind around it. I need to step back and look at the big picture.” I trust others may feel the same way at times.
So this fall, as we enjoy extra special music, we will step back and look at the big picture. We will lift up the ways we respond to God’s call to us as a Christian community. We will celebrate our ministries of sharing joy, caring for the web of creation, honoring the wisdom we inherit, healing body, mind and spirit, building bridges of understanding, seeking a just peace, inspiring courage, and forming faith.
Join us this fall for “Making a Joyful Noise: A Celebration of Music and Ministry,” each Sunday morning at 10 am!
Peace,
Debbie
