It’s been quite a busy summer with people of all ages participating in our Christian Education programs! We’ve helped water the herb garden; we’ve been experimenting (and playing) with science and water throughout the summer. Do you know how many drops of water fit on a penny? What does that have to do with God? Make sure to ask our kids! We celebrated the baptism of Amelia Jones and Daniel Stewart-Morales. One Sunday we even went for a hike to the Sudbury River—complete with a Bible lesson. Our kids sure know how to do church!
Not to be outdone, our youth led worship on August 12, bringing songs and insights to the congregation from their experiences at the Eastern Regional Youth Event. I even heard how Obi-wan Kenobi led a guided meditation, how the Simply Smiles program was a leap of faith, and how ministry with people of all abilities is radical just like Jesus.
We want to extend a huge thank-you to all of the volunteers who taught lessons, watered gardens, and led hikes over the summer. Our kids really enjoyed getting to know you!
Looking ahead, we’re not slowing down anytime soon! On August 26, we will have brunch worship and the Blessing of the Backpacks. We will honor the 2018 graduates. We will dedicate backpacks to be given to Jewish Family Services to fill and distribute to kids who need a little extra. Bring your backpack to be blessed and bring an extra to go to kids in need. On August 27, Debbie will lead a group from Edwards who will go to the Framingham Library from 10:00am-noon and help fill those backpacks.
September 9 is the Blessing of the Animals service—a neighborhood favorite! This is a great time to invite the families that you know to come and see what Edwards Church is all about! September 16 is the official beginning of the Christian Education year for our church. This fall, we will focus on learning about the Lord’s Prayer. We will explore the meaning and practice of praying, as well as learning this prayer Jesus taught. We might even explore some fun tunes that go along with the words. September 23 includes a trip to Worcester Fellowship to help provide lunch at the outdoor church service for people experiencing homelessness. On September 30, we’ll invite everyone downstairs to the Open House to explore our learning spaces and have conversations with our talented and caring teachers. This is one more opportunity to invite those families you know. You might just change their lives! The future is bright!
Blessings,
Dawn Sorensen
