Dear Friends,
This past Sunday, in my sermon, I reflected on gratitude as a practice. I made reference to the practice of keeping a gratitude journal, a daily listing or reflection on the things for which we are grateful.
And so, as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, I took a few minutes to think about the things that would show up on my list. Here are just a few:
- For music that inspires me and sometimes moves me to tears;
- For opportunities to bake cookies;
- For church members who volunteer to usher at the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on a cold, rainy night;
- For the opportunity to do yoga right here at my place of work;
- For the people with whom I work each day, and the people who drop by the office to say hello;
- For the sound of children playing at Stapleton;
- For a community with whom I can reflect on the hard things happening around us;
- For opportunities to respond to what’s happening around us in small and large ways.
- For the capacity to laugh even in hard times;
- For my family.
It’s not a comprehensive list, but it’s a start. What’s on your list this Thanksgiving? Wherever and however you celebrate this holiday, may it be an opportunity to awaken to gratitude.
On Thanksgiving Sunday, November 18, 2018, our choir sang this anthem. May it serve as a prayer for you throughout the coming week.
Peace,
