A Lenten Devotion by Debbie Clark
O come, let us sing to God; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Psalm 95:1
For the first ten years of our ministry together at Edwards Church, we had a fun tradition for Easter Sunrise. Each year, I would ask a child, or the children in a family, to help me write a Litany of Praise, which they would lead at our Easter Sunrise service. This one was written by Roxanne, Tyler and Alison Cichowlas and Jessica and Jordan Muhs in 1998. Now they are all adults. I hope they still remember to thank God for candy and seeds and making cookies!
Alison: For family and candy and eating blue and green eggs,
For the Easter bunny and putting ears on the guinea pig,
People: We give you thanks, God of resurrection.
Jessica: For playing with dogs and rolling in the mud,
For jumping on the trampoline and discovering new things,
People: We give you praise, God of growing.
Tyler: For electric guitar and drums and melody pops,
For keyboard and harpsichord,
People: We glorify your name, Creative Spirit.
Roxanne and Alison: For birthdays and tennis and animals coming out of hibernation,
For planting seeds and watching them sprout,
People: We praise you, Giver of new life.
Jordan: For singing and praying and the assurance of God’s forgiveness,
For communion and coffee hour,
People: We honor you, God of community.
Tyler: For math and studying nature and learning how go-carts are made,
For spelling and learning the background facts about history,
People: We thank you, Holy Teacher.
Roxanne and Jordan: For making cookies for families in a shelter and cleaning other people’s houses,
For One Less Gift and the way you feel when you give someone something,
People: We give you praise, Spirit of compassion.
Alison: For flowers and sky and ocean, For pets and good music,
People: We honor you, God of beauty.
Jordan: For playing cards and Spice Girl dolls and Starfox,
For doing favors for each other,
People: We give you glory, God of joy.
Jessica: For family and pets and friends,
For classmates and teachers,
People: We praise you, God of love.
May we praise you for all things. Amen.
