A Lenten Devotion by Bette Norton
But Jesus called for them and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them, for it is to such as there that the Kingdom of God belongs.”
Luke 18:16
I have always counted my blessings that I was fortunate to have taught preschool. To help shape and develop young minds so eager to learn was very rewarding. I always remember learning in an Early Education Coarse that a child’s brain from the age of two to three years of age will undergo the most cognitive development during their life time. Every day was a new discovery for my students cognitively as well as emotional and physical.
As we age and get caught up in life’s challenges, we tend to lose that childhood wonder. My students taught me to find joy in the smallest things, catching a snowflake on my tongue, blowing bubbles, singing happy songs, reading picture books, molding animals out of play dough. They took pride in learning fine and gross motor skills and socializing with their peers.
Whenever I would enter my classroom I would leave behind the problems of the world and personal worries and concerns.
My students taught me to live fully in the moment, find joy in the smallest things, and to love unconditionally.
To see the world through the eyes of a child is an amazing gift.
Thank you God for children, as they have much to teach us!
