A Lenten Devotion by Philip Dolliver, Jr.
Here’s another Litany of Praise, written by one of our children for Easter Sunrise Services. This one was written in 2000 by Philip Dolliver, Jr. Philip is now an adult and a veteran of the US Marine Corps.
Leader: For finding money and candy in Easter eggs,
For baskets,
People: We give you thanks, God of resurrection.
Leader: For roller blading and skate boarding,
For sledding and reading “The Little Owl Who Asks Why,”
People: We give you thanks, God of growing.
Leader: For making suncatchers and a bike,
For baking turtle bread and building trashcans out of popsicle sticks,
People: We glorify your name, Creative Spirit.
Leader: For jumping off forts and into leaves,
For gardening in springtime and playing outside,
People: We praise you, Giver of new life.
Leader: For Family Sundays and “Bread Day,”
For playing on the playground and cookies in coffee hour,
People: We honor you, God of community.
Leader: For learning about komodo dragons,
For building big machines,
People: We thank you, Holy Teacher.
Leader: For riding in Rocky’s trailer and raking on clean-up day.
For helping Grammy break up sticks with a sledge hammer,
People: We give you praise, Spirit of compassion.
Leader: For flowers and stickers,
For bicycles and grass,
People: We honor you, God of beauty.
Leader: For staying up late and the Test Drive Off-Road II computer game,
For swimming and Saturdays,
People: We give you glory, God of joy.
Leader: For Mom and Dad, Tina and my cousins,
For gym teachers and friends,
People: We praise you, God of love.
ALL: Great and glorious God, we praise you for the gifts you have given us: For Easter and growing, for creativity and springtime and the church, for learning and compassion and beauty, for joy and love. We praise you for the gift of new life in Christ. Amen
