Some of you may have noticed that in the anthems we sang throughout January, each included the word “river” in the title. The first week of February will conclude this series with a beautiful arrangement that combines songs “Peace Like a “River” and “Kum Ba Yah.” The following week we will complement the sermon with an interesting setting of the text from Matthew, “You are the Light of the World.” On Presidents Day weekend, we will sing the familiar “Lift Every Voice and Sing” which as a poem was first presented to celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, and has achieved notoriety in recent times as our “Black national anthem.” Rounding out the month we will bring back an anthem we presented first last spring, “I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light.” It is hard to believe the following week we will already be on to our Lenten theme. As ever, if you are interested in joining the fun, please contact me and I will give you all the details!
