A Lenten Devotion by Cindy Sweeney
The glory of Lebanon shall come to you,
Isaiah 60:13
the cypress, the plane, and the pine,
to beautify the place of my sanctuary;
and I will glorify where my feet rest.
When I think of a grove of trees it brings memories of the pine grove at my grandparents’. I spent wondrous days climbing on them and imagining they were my protectors. I always felt safe and at ease in that grove. I spent hours with those trees. It helped mold who I am now.
I felt like I was with God. I imagined all that went into making these giants. I loved making pine cone wreaths with my grandmother. Every time I see a pine tree it brings back memories.
We give you thanks for memories—of people we love, of the joy of childhood, of safety and beauty. Amen.
