Dear friends,
Are you feeling a little distanced these days? Are you looking for a new way to broaden your interest in music? Are you always trying to be more mindful but have a “mind” that’s already quite “full”? I am offering an online music class to anyone who wants to be part of a new community at Edwards Church. It’s something that I’ve had in my mind for years now and this is the opportunity to make it real. While the main goal is to give the “students” a reminder to keep their minds focused on the positive things in life during this uncertain time, the happy byproduct will be the chance to see and hear friends (even those who are not in the choir) whom we are missing right now. I even see this going into other territories of learning opportunities, several of which I will be excited to be part of.
This is a “music appreciation” class which assumes no prior knowledge, though I have designed it to ensure that there is interesting content for people of all musical backgrounds. Ultimately, I’ll be sharing a score study mindfulness practice I’ve developed over the years, but the path I’ll take to get us those skills will be a winding one involving a variety of approachable elements about music history and theory.
I’m excited to see where this goes! Join me Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. There are slides and scores involved so logging in by computer is optimal. No musical skill is required and no group singing.
You are in my prayers,
Rick Seaholm
