A Lenten Devotion by Fran Bogle
The next day the great crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, shouting, ‘Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of God-the King of Israel!’
John 12:12-19
This palm frond reminds me to look deep into my heart when I cry out for a messiah, a savior. Once in a while I want someone to make it easier, to take the pain away, to let me live without worry or cares. Then, when I pause and look, it’s like peering into the swirling heart of this palm. I discover new life that is green and growing, waiting to burst forth. My heart fronds are reaching out to the sun and offering shade to the burning places in my soul. I already have a messiah, who walks with me every day, filling my heart and soul with new life.
Thank you Jesus, for being with me always. Thank You, Holy Lover of us all, for filling us with hope and energizing us with love even when we walk or ride toward times that feel like crucifixion. Amen
