A Lenten Devotion by Jan Adams
For whatever happens to the beasts soon happens to man. All things are connected.
Chief Seattle
Eastern sun sparkles over the hill
Where once a forest stood.
Noisy, noxious machines
Have cut, pushed, crunched
Everything in their path
Exposing naked, rocky cobble
Sites of emerging
Ostentatious houses.
Budding leaves
Will fill the void for me
But not for coyote, skunk and fox
Wandering open fields
Searching for new sylvan hideaways.
Forgive us, O God, our betrayal of the web of creation. Amen
