MISSION PROJECT UPDATE: A Cup of Cold Water
What is “A Cup of Cold Water”?: “A Cup of Cold Water” is an all-church mission project to serve Boston’s homeless during the hot summer months in the midst of the pandemic. We are filling reusable water bottles with important safety items. We will give the filled bottles to Rosie’s Place and Common Cathedral to distribute.
Who can help with this project? You! This is a congregation-wide, intergenerational project – there are jobs for everyone who wants to help out. Please see below for specific ways you can help.
What has been done so far? It is a HUGE job to collect 100 each of many small items! Thank you for your generosity in already contributing 100 of each of the following safety items:
- Bandanas
- Disinfectant Wipes (travel-size packages)
- Wrapped Bars of Soap (small hotel-size)
How can I help? You can donate safety items. We’re happy to pick up your donations. We need these quantities:
- Chapstick with SPF – need 100
- Dunkin’ Donuts Gift Cards (small amounts, i.e., $5) – need 100
- Granola Bars — need 50
- Sunscreen (travel-size) – need 100
- Zip-Lock Bags (quart size) – need 100
You can sew masks. We still need 25.
You (and your family) can fill hand sanitizer bottles (travel-size). We’ll deliver the supplies to you and pick up your filled bottles.
You can write encouraging messages. We’ll give you notecards and a sample message and pick up your completed notes.
You can make a financial contribution towards purchasing the water bottles (each bottle costs $5). You can make your donation through Edwards’ PayPal account or a check designated for “A Cup of Cold Water.”
You can pack water bottles. During the week of July 5, we will hold a packing party using social-distancing guidelines.
You can deliver water bottles during the week of July 12 to Rosie’s Place or Common Cathedral in Boston.
What are the due dates for the project?
- Week of June 28 – finish collecting all items needed for the bottles
- Week of July 5 – pack the bottles
- Week of July 12 – deliver bottles to Boston
Who do I contact to volunteer or if I have questions? Please contact Associate Pastor Karen Nell Smith to volunteer, to donate items, or with any questions. You can call Karen Nell at 508-331-3081 or email her.
