For the last eight years, we have begun the fall season with an outdoor Blessing of the Animals service. This year, we are challenged to give our old tradition a new twist! While we will miss the joyous chaos of an outdoor service, our virtual Blessing of the Animals will enable many more of God’s beloved creatures to participate. Do you have a shy cat? Or a dog that’s too barky? A turtle who doesn’t like to leave the terrarium? This year they too can experience blessing from our congregation.
There are several ways you can participate in this service:
- Create a short (10-20 seconds) video showing a beloved animal companion or even a beloved stuffed animal collection. Let the video convey something about peace and joy—theirs, yours, God’s…. It can be a silent video, a narrated video, a barky video, or a still shot.
- Send a still photo of a beloved animal companion who is now part of the angel chorus.
- Bring your animal or photo to the service (or bring your tablet-laptop to your animal). There will be a time to turn on your video and join in a communal blessing.
