Disaster Relief: Wider Mission Special Offering for September
On top of the distress COVID-19 is causing, people all over our nation have experienced the danger and disruption of weather-related disasters: a derecho in Central Iowa, terrible fires in California, and Hurricane Laura in Texas and Louisiana. In all those places, the United Church of Christ is already offering relief, working with local congregations and community organizations to assess needs and provide support. In Belle Plaine, Iowa, the local United Church of Christ took the lead feeding people in the town, providing 500-750 lunches every day for a week.
That congregation’s efforts are supported by a grant from the UCC’s Disaster Relief ministry. One hundred percent of money donated to UCC Disaster Relief goes directly to help efforts like this one—local and grassroots. Similar efforts are taking shape in California and Louisiana.
For the month of September, the Board of Wider Mission invites you to make a special offering to support UCC Disaster Relief. As always, you can give through our PayPal account or by sending a check to the church. Please be sure to note “Disaster Relief,” so we can credit the donation appropriately.
Thank you for your generosity.
