“But take care and watch yourselves closely, so as neither to forget the things that your eyes have seen nor to let them slip from your mind all the days of your life; make them known to your children and your children’s children…”
Deuteronomy 4:9
Dear friends,
In this season of giving and gratefulness, my heart is full of thanks for the generosity of all the members of our Edwards Church community. Here are several recent intergenerational activities that illustrate the care we show for one another, teaching our children by example and making a difference in the world around us.
The Trunk-or-Treat event on October 25 was a tremendous success. On a beautiful autumn afternoon, fifteen cars circled our parking lot with trunks decorated for Halloween and safely and creatively offering treats to our Christian Explorers and other young friends of Edwards Church. Activities included making stained glass leaves, writing thank you notes for vets, and decorating pumpkins. I’m not sure who had more fun, the “trunkers” or the “trick or treaters”! What a great way to come together to celebrate the season with our children and safely catch up with one another.
This fall we’ve also started a new ministry, “Let me tell you a story…” recording videos reading books to our children. Each week or so, a new story will be shared in our weekly Christian Explorers email. The videos can be watched (and rewatched!) online by our kids whenever they want. We hope this is one small way to help keep our children and families connected and engaged during the long winter months to come. If you have a favorite children’s book you’d like to read, please join us in this project!
Remember the big penny jar??? In our upcoming stewardship season, the big glass jar will re-appear as a way for our children to learn more about the journey of faith through giving. Folks of all ages can join in the fun by participating in a contest to see how much money we’ve collected so far. The one whose guess is closest without going over, will receive a special surprise. Please email your guess to me at choresis@comcast.net by November 20.
The generations in our congregation make us a rich and vibrant beloved community. Although we must continue to keep apart physically, in so many ways, I feel we are closer than ever. We are still touching each other’s hearts, living our faith in new and creative ways, and teaching our children by all that we say and do together. Thank you!
Blessings for November,
Karen Nell
