Local food is fresher, lower in its carbon footprint, and changes in concert with the seasons. About fourteen years ago those of us at Grace Church thought it would be a good idea to get a share of food from Stearns Farm to share the joy of local food with members of our congregation and local food pantries. Our Sunday school children grew up learning how to plant garlic, pick bugs off potatoes, and weigh out a pound of carrots. None of them have become farmers (yet!), but we are happy to continue the tradition here at Edwards Church.
From June through October Edwards Church brings fresh produce every week from Stearns Farm on Edmands Road in Framingham to local food pantries. Anyone can sign up to pick up the food on a Friday afternoon and make the delivery to those in need. It’s a family-friendly activity—weighing out some vegetables, a little light pick-your-own, and a beautiful setting in the northwest corner of Framingham.

You can also contact Mary Memmott, the volunteer organizer, or any of our experienced volunteers: Matt Walker, Heather Gonzalez, Lee Ann Friedman, Ronda Yeomans, Joanie White, or Frank Carney. If you’d like to visit the farm first with a volunteer who is already signed up, that can be arranged, or Mary can meet you at the farm at a convenient time to show you how it works.
It’s easy being green — see you at the farm!
