CITY ELECTIONS ARE COMING!
Climate Action Forum: Framingham Mayor and City Council Candidates
You might wonder what elections have to do with Kermit’s Corner. As with most elections, our values and dreams are on the ballot. In this case, our Green Team considers a sustainable environment an important part of creating an ecologically healthy place to live. So, we want to make sure we elect a mayor and eleven city councilors (nine district and two at-large) who share that vision.
Four years ago, we and many other environmental organizations in Framingham advocated for hiring a Sustainability Coordinator for the city and through a coordinated effort this happened. The next step was to create a subcommittee of the City Council and that happened two years ago when the Environmental and Sustainability Subcommittee was formed. This happened with the considerable help of our church member and city councilman Cesar Stewart-Morales who is the chairman of that subcommittee.
The primary is September 14 and the election is November 2. BUT, more important is the date for the Climate Action Forum: Framingham Mayor and City Council Candidates, which is September 24, 2021 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Plymouth Church in Framingham. This event is sponsored by: Sustainable Framingham, The Plymouth Church in Framingham, UCC Green Team First Parish, UUA Climate Action Committee. The mayoral candidates and the people running for city council will be there to answer important questions about their vision for a sustainable Framingham. I attended this event two years ago and it was very informative. Some very insightful questions were asked by the moderator and a lot was learned about where the candidates stood on the various environmental issues facing the city and how informed the candidates were or were not. It really helped me decide who would be the best candidates for my vision of a sustainable city.
So, save the date, put it on your calendars and please come to the Climate Action Forum on September 24! IT IS IMPORTANT! Learn more here.
