In the interest of utmost caution as we return to the sanctuary, the Edwards Church Council voted in October to refrain from singing in the sanctuary during our initial worship services. While we are sad about this fact, it felt like the right decision at the time of that meeting and all we can do is vote with our hearts at each step of the way, taking into account what we’ve heard scientifically, anecdotally, and also what we are feeling individually. We can only hope that as the world continues to evolve, this decision may seem oddly foreign to some future historian reading through our various publications.
But we don’t plan to refrain from music entirely! We’re Edwards Church after all. In November we’ll hear piano trio music with our own Jane Ezbicki joining Susan with their friend Marian on cello.
We will also sing our final hymn each week outdoors so that everyone will be able to sing with good courage as we have been able in our outdoor worship. With any luck heading into Advent I very much hope to continue these outdoor bouts of joyful singing with the choir offering some of its favorite Christmas music after certain worship services.
Stay tuned for more in December. And let me know how you’d like to be a part of it.
