In December, we celebrated Advent, learned about the feeling of anticipation, and decided how to use the money we collected in our big penny jar. We agreed to gift a family a flock of chickens through Heifer International and to donate the rest to the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation who help communities throughout the world plan orchards of fruit and nut trees. We ended the month with a glorious hybrid Christmas pageant on Christmas Eve. Thank you to all the families who joined together to make it such a special event!
Awakening! is our theme for January. This month, we celebrate the season of Epiphany, a time of learning more about the early life of Jesus and the signs of his ministry to come. Here are some special events and activities for Christian Explorers this month…
- Epiphany Star gazing! Come to look for signs among the stars in the lower parking lot at Edwards Church on Saturday, January 8 (Sunday, January 9 is the cloud or rain date) from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. We’ll have telescopes and fire pits, marshmallow roasting, hot cocoa and music. Bundle up and join us!
- Worshipping in the “Tent of Meeting” We’ve had fun settling into our new prayground in the sanctuary and making it our own. In January, we’ll continue to gather there, bringing in and taking out the light, doing fun crafts, helping with the offering, and reading stories about Jesus.
- Quilts for Kenya! Sunrise School in Mumias, Kenya is a school for children with autism. This month we’ll begin an intergenerational project to make blankets and quilts for the children’s beds in the new dormitory, called “The Cottage,” where children and their families stay when they are at the school. Look for more information about this congregation-wide service project.
