First Followers!
Advent kept us busy preparing for the Christmas Eve pageant, this year with puppets. Thank you to everyone who donated toilet paper and paper towel rolls!!
This month is the season of Epiphany, a time in the church calendar when we celebrate and recognize all the signs that show us Jesus as God’s love. It’s also a time to think about how we, as Jesus’ disciples, help spread Jesus’ light and love in the world.
Here are some activities for Christian Explorers in January…
• Star gifts. On New Year’s Day morning at 10 a.m., we’ll gather in the sanctuary for worship and each choose a “star word” to guide us on our journey from Bethlehem into the new year ahead. Come for this informal family communion service, followed by coffee hour.
• “Old Christmas” On Sunday, January 8th, we’ll discover how some in Appalachia celebrate Epiphany. Come on Sunday morning to bang pots and pans, hear animals praying, and assemble “poke bags” as we learn about these interesting historical traditions!
• What is a “disciple?” We’ll be hearing Bible stories about the very first people who followed Jesus. What did it mean to them to be a disciple? What does it mean to us today?
