Creativity without Judgment: Workshops and Open Mic!
Saturday, October 28th. 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
We are transforming our annual Day of Spirit into three new events throughout the year! Join us as we kick off our year of The Creative Journey, with our event Creativity without Judgment, featuring a special front porch open mic. Our event begins with an engaging opening discussion on how embracing creativity can significantly enhance our well-being. Learn how to shed self-judgment and explore the immense potential within your creative spirit. We’ll shift our focus from the end result to the journey of the creative process.
Following the discussion, you’ll have the opportunity to dive deeper into your creative side with one of our three immersive workshops, each lasting an hour:
Engaging our Hearts in the Creative Process led by Rosanne Kates
Come and utilize your senses as we create freely with flowers. See creativity flourish as the spirit is freed from self-judgment.
Creative Cooking with Pumpkins led by Safiyat Hamiss of Tasty Harvests
Transform traditionally discarded pumpkin seeds and flesh into tasty treats and dishes. Learn to experiment in the kitchen, minimize waste and maximize flavor.
Photography Workshop: Finding Beauty all Around Us led by Fran Bogle
Experience unexpected beauty all around us. Use all your senses and photography skills as you begin to see the world in new ways. Camera or cell phone camera. No experience needed. Outdoors, weather permitting.
Join our Front Porch Open Mic & Refreshments!
After the workshops, join us for a heartwarming front porch open mic session. Share your creativity, stories, or simply enjoy the diverse talents of your fellow attendees. Light refreshments will be served as we celebrate our shared artistic journey.
Reserve your spot at openspiritcenter.org.
Calling all performers—Open Mic, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
We are seeking folks who would like to share their talents with us, for a 10–15-minute slot! We welcome musicians, singers, poets, magicians, comedians, and more! All ages and abilities are welcome as we celebrate the diversity of creativity. Sign up here.
We believe that creativity should be accessible to all. This event is offered on a donation basis. Your contributions support our programming and help us live into our vision of being a source of hope and healing in our divided world.

An Invitation from Rabbi Katy Allen
“I’m just delighted that my congregation and I will be putting up a small sukkah at Open Spirit this year. Sukkot begins on Friday evening, September 29, and ends on Saturday evening, October 7. It is a time to remember how our ancestors wandered in the desert and built small booths (sukkot) as shelters. It is a time to remember the fragility of life.
“I’d like to invite you to join in celebrating Sukkot. There are numerous opportunities, including simply sitting in the sukkah for a quiet moment by yourself or with a friend when you are on the campus. The sukkah will be near Edwards Hall and the vegetable gardens. If you’d like to help put up or take down the sukkah email me at rabbi@mayantikvah.org and we’ll set up a time to meet.
“In addition, I invite you to a Sukkot Drop-in Gathering, Wednesday, October 4, 12:00-2:00 p.m. Take time to sit and rest and enjoy a moment of fellowship. Drop by and sit in the sukkah. Shake the lulav and etrog and learn about their meaning. Bring your lunch if you’d like. We’ll provide tea and dessert and companionship.”
Community Meditation
Saturday, October 14, 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon
Join Joti Royster for a monthly community meditation, followed by reflections and sharing (for those who’d like to stay). It is an opportunity to sit in person, with practitioners and friends. There will be guided meditation interspersed with silence for the first forty minutes followed by reflections, questions and insights, sharing, readings, friendship.
Joti Royster, formerly from Sacred Spaces in Southborough, is currently at Temple Forest Monastery in Temple, New Hampshire. She can be reached at jotimetta@gmail.com.
This event is a sharing of truth, freely offered. Donations to support for Open Spirit programming are welcomed.
