Dear friends,
As I write this, I am preparing for my pre-op appointment at New England Baptist Hospital, where I will be having a knee replacement on April 3. I’m a little reluctant, a little nervous, a little curious, and even a little bit eager to finally get it done. I am grateful for the wisdom of so many of you who have experienced joint replacements before. I am grateful for the offers of ice machines, walkers, crutches, shower seats and more. I am grateful for the promise that you all will be supporting Fran as she supports me!
When we first met with the surgeon, we asked how much time I should take off work after my knee replacement. Dr. Phillips said that most people take 4-6 weeks, but some people are back to work in two. Of course, I heard two weeks, and Fran heard six! We’ve compromised at four. My current plan is that I will take the month of April off to recover. There are many unknowns, and it’s possible I will need to extend it by a few weeks. I suspect I will be restless at home; I also know it is important to take the full month to focus on healing and gaining strength. I will be continuing our Lenten theme of “practicing,” with a focus on practicing patience!
I suspect I will be live-streaming in to our worship, for Karen Nell has arranged for a rich and inspiring month—with an Easter pageant, the Just Peace Players, our friend Sarah Hubbell preaching, and even a “remote” sermon I hope to peach at the end of the month. We will build on our Lenten theme of “Practicing” as we “Practice Resurrection.”
I will miss seeing you all for the month of April, and I look forward to being back limping and ultimately leaping with you all soon thereafter!
Peace, Debbie
