World Central Kitchen (WCK) Fun and Fundraiser
Saturday, June 15, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Plymouth Church Hall
Come gather, eat and feed the world!
The Justice and Love in Action Team and Plymouth Church are organizing a buffet dinner to raise awareness about the good work of WCK, contribute funds, and have fun, remembering that joy is an act of resistance! All the dishes served will be from the The World Central Kitchen Cookbook: Feeding Humanity, Feeding Hope. There will be a brief presentation about the work of World Central Kitchen, music, and a free-will offering.
World Central Kitchen has brought chef-prepared meals to feed people in disaster areas around the world since 2010. The global nonprofit began when Chef José Andrés sought to help people in Haiti after the catastrophic 2010 earthquake and has returned to serve the people of Haiti in its current humanitarian crisis. They responded with urgency when Hurricane Harvey hit Houston and when Hurricane María hit Puerto Rico. WCK continues to feed people in Ukraine and Syria. They supported hospitals during the pandemic. WCK supports 68 community kitchens in Gaza, and they have also served over 540,000 meals in Israel. Their work spans more than 45 countries. They respond with empathy, compassion, and urgency after areas are devastated by war or natural disaster. They adapt to difficult circumstances to feed people and in doing so cultivate hope.
