Dear Two-Legged, Opposable-thumbed friends,
My name is Lily. I’m a fluffy white standard poodle. Many of you met my Aunt-in-Spirit, Jeannie the Service Dog for Ministry. I never met her, but I feel her spirit every time I am in the church.
I sense her energy in the dogwood tree planted in her memory on the campus.
People tell me I’m a lot like Jeannie — friendly and cuddly and energetic. And we’re different. She could be cautious; I’m curious and bold. She came to the church fully trained; I’m still learning. I’m getting there…and I’m grateful for your patience.
We’re working on limiting my barking to when the humans applaud (it seems only fair; clapping my paws doesn’t work). And my people are learning how to help me stay calm. If you come to church and would like to pat me, I’d love to be patted. Come on over!
If you are not a dog-fan, I understand. My people (usually Fran or Debbie) try to keep me on a short leash and check in with folks about whether they’d like a Lily pat. Just let them know your preferences, and they will keep me at a distance. If you’re concerned about coming to church when you know there’s a dog there, let Debbie know (pastor@edwardschurch.org). She’ll talk with you and come up with a plan so you can feel comfortable and welcome!
Woof! Woof! Howwlllll!
Peace, Lily the Assistant Minister (in Training) for Pats and Woofs
