Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.–Philippians 4:8
This is a picture of the last Navy Nurse Corps Strategic Planning Meeting I oversaw as Deputy of the Corps. I love these people. As I write this I find myself tearing up. Why? I’m not entirely sure. Each of these individuals, including those not seen here, are amazing. They are people whose values I share, who are kind, who are exceptionally talented and dedicated nurses. They challenged me, we helped each other grow and traverse through some difficult times. We did not always agree, but we always came together. We supported each other and those we served. There is something to be said about coming together under a common goal, about living and working closely together, through thick and thin and making it through. The connection I have with these people is strong, the type of friendships that last through time and distance and when you do come together, is like no time has past at all, we are right there in this picture. The tears? Well I guess I’m still looking for this since my transition to civilian life. I have it in pockets, my family and friends of course, the Edwards community, growing work connections. I have to remind myself that my Navy family grew and evolved over 30 years, and they are still a part of my life. Similar relationships will grow in my new roles and environment, one interaction at a time.
We give thanks, O God, for communities that have nurtured, inspired and taught us. May we bring the gifts of each community we have been part of into the new communities we form. Amen.
