We have an incredible lineup of special music this November. For the first time during our virtual worship months, I’m reasonably sure, the majority of music you hear are recordings made especially for Edwards virtual worship. That’s amazing. And while some has been recorded by me, as you’d expect, more and more is being generated […]
The Edwards Church Music Program
Our worship service is enhanced by the creativity and talent of many musicians.
We are grateful for the beautiful organ music offered by Cheryl Elkins and by Susan Minor’s gifts on our grand piano!
The choir, directed by Cheryl and Susan, strengthens the congregation’s voice and offers a special anthem every week. Several special Music Sundays, including Christmas and Easter, feature an expanded choir. Any season is a good time to join the choir.
Periodically, we are blessed with a jazz quartet, solo guitar, bluegrass band or a string ensemble.
Our Music Committee's 2023 annual report is available.
Virtual Worship Continues, and Needs YOU
What an amazing summer it’s been with our virtual worship services. Since we will be continuing through the fall, the time is right to begin planning and we need your help! We’ve come up with a number of multi-week projects that will involve as many singers, photographers, artists, writers, poets, and dancers as possible. I’ve […]
A New Hymn for a New Day
In preparation for Thanksgiving Sunday (November 22), we hope to create a new hymn to reflect our experience of gratitude in this time. Debbie will be writing the lyrics, based on input from the congregation. I would love for you to send me a paragraph or two, a phrase or two, or even a word […]

Summer Music Appreciation
Dear friends, I’ve had a great time in conversation with a core group of music lovers since we’ve all been home, but there’s always room for more. We’ll meet a little less frequently in the summer. I plan to have class on July 9, 16, and 30 as well as August 6, 13, and 20. […]
Music Classes Continue
I will be continuing my Thursday evening music classes during May, with the exception of May 7. During April I conducted a few classes on Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” Respighi’s “Pines of Rome,” and Handel’s “Messiah” (really? Yes, Handel premiered it in the month of April!). I never really know what will be the topic until […]
February Choir
Some of you may have noticed that in the anthems we sang throughout January, each included the word “river” in the title. The first week of February will conclude this series with a beautiful arrangement that combines songs “Peace Like a “River” and “Kum Ba Yah.” The following week we will complement the sermon with […]
Is This Your Resolution?
If you have ever wondered when is the best time to join the choir here at Edwards Church, I’ll let you know January is not too shabby! Here’s why. We just got done with our full fall semester, which made us very busy through December. What that means is we never had time to look […]
The Most Wonderful Time
When I first came to Edwards, I admit I thought “I don’t know about these Advent anthems…” simply because they are a collection of less familiar pieces at a time of the year when secular interests are completely consumed with full-on Christmas texts and tunes. But then I returned to “Prepare Ye” and “He Come […]
So Many Blessings!
When I selected the anthems for November, I decided that I would go with recent favorites, given October had its share of unfamiliar pieces. And I was surprised by what I found: our three stewardship anthems include the word “blessings” in the title. How appropriate for our congregation! As we focus on the gifts we […]
